A well drilled England side took an early lead with clinical presion on the new water-based pitch at Moulton College. A second right on half time saw them comfortably on top of this fast moving match. However, Saints were not going to roll over. They maintained most of the possession in the second half but found it nigh-on impossible to break down the England defence. Whilst a third England goal sealed the result, a fast break saw Stuart Clarke scythe through to score a super consolation goal. On the whole a sound Saints performance but they are going to need to close a few holes in their defence before they attempt another assult on the Midlands Premier title. Northampton Lions & Saints to Merge
Northampton Saints, who have recently won promotion to the Womens National League, have struggled to develop a consistant flow of young players. In turn Lions, who recently moved to the Moulton College campus have not been able to retain significant adult player numbers. Both have concluded that a fully merged club will provide the platform for potentially two National League sides under the banner "Northampton Hockey Club". The senior sides will retain the name 'Saints' whilst the junior sides will come under the 'Lions' banner. More information: Northampton Saints National League for Northampton Saints Ladies
They amassed a total of 37 points from 18 matches putting them a staggering 9 points clear of their second place rivals Loughborough Students. The Club soon hope to announce their coaching staff to take them on their National League journey. Midlands Region Hockey Womens League Premier 2008/09 Ben Arnold wins Higgins Trophy
